House Hunting

I'm sorry for the shortage of posts this week. I spent the last half of the week out of town house hunting. While walking through each house, I took furious notes. I had made a large checklist before heading out of town. The checklist was broken down by the types of rooms I needed. Each room was rated by size, storage, layout, current decor and overall functionality. Some rooms had extra criteria such as the kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms.

My checklist worked wonderfully for each house. I walked through and was able to objectively measure how each home would fit my lifestyle. But then I went to the last house, and I realized my checklist had one huge flaw. I forgot to rate the homes on how they felt - how they made me feel when I walked in.

Buying a new home is more than just a functional purchase. In many ways, it's like falling in love. You just know when you've found the right one.

But don't let those feelings get in the way when negotiating a price. Then you'll get screwed.

Hey Meghan
I have a room that I'm going to paint a yellow-orange color(using your marbling technique! thank you for that!) and I'm wondering what color to paint the door that leads to into it. So far I'm thinking of a dark slate blue. Are there other colors I could use in place of that?
I hope you find yourself a beautiful home to fall in love with :)

Hello Meghan and thank you for this site!
I'm preparing to remodel a 1939 classic open beamed ranch style kitchen and want to blend what's authentic to the era of the house with my own love of farmhouse style. I've chosen the new cabinets (simple white shaker style) and a classic farmhouse sink (white) and am wondering what you think of using 4x4 terracotta or saltillo tiles on the counters to achieve a rustic look.
My second choice is to go retro with subay tile (beige/tan) with a contrasting trim tile but I'd really rather get a stony rustic look on the counters! ANY suggestions would be sooo appreciated!
Thanks and have a great day, Elizabeth

I came across a closet hanger organizer called the HankyTankyHanger. A really saved me alot if space in my closet. Anyone that wants more closet space should google HankyTankyHanger. My daughter went off to college and told me that she has small closets. I orderd the HankyTankyHanger for her dorm room and all her friends mothers told me that they liked it too.

Hi Meghan,
I found your site from watching your stencil videos on Youtube. Very informative--thanks for the information. I was wondering if you would post your checklist for homes (or a modified version of it). It sounds really helpful and I would like to see how you set it up.
Thanks so much,
Susan

You're so right about making sure you love the feel of the place. You just know it when you stumble onto it. No matter how much decorating you do, if you don't start with the right connection, you'll always be trying to make up for that lake of initial love. I like how you have your check list. That's a great way to make sure your heart doesn't totally over rule your head.

So, I have decided to go home improvement by changing the ceiling of my entire home and make some major makeover for furniture. Please give me some valuable tips for home improvement.

I was looking out in the world wide web to see what is out there in DIY videos. I found one site that seemed like it had videos from many different people, Your video caught my eye, I liked the production of it. So I googled your name and got to this site. Did someone steal your content? Or do you allow others to play your videos? I was on floortube.com.
